Corn silk Corn silk is a common term to describe the shiny, thread-like, silky style on corn ears; the tuft or tassel of silky fibers growing at the tip of an ear of corn. The ear is enclosed in modified leaves called husks. The individual silk fibers that protrude from the tip of the ear are the elongated styles, each attached to an individual ovary. 〔http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/corn-silk?s=t〕 The term probably originated somewhere between 1850 and 1855.〔 == References ==
